Insurance & claims

You are never required to use the body shop your insurance recommends — Maryland law protects your right to choose. We work with every major carrier, bill them directly, document supplements for hidden damage, and coordinate rental cars when your policy covers them. The questions below cover deductibles, total losses, OEM vs. aftermarket parts, and how the claim flows from start to finish.

The repair process

Every job at Airpark starts with a free, written, itemized estimate and ends with a vehicle that looks and drives like it did before the damage. Below: how to get an estimate, realistic repair timelines, how computerized paint matching makes a repair invisible, our workmanship and lifetime paint warranty, and the full range of damage we repair — from paintless dent removal to frame and structural work.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use the body shop my insurance company recommends?

No. Maryland law gives you the right to choose your own collision repair shop. Your insurer can suggest a preferred or 'DRP' shop, but they cannot require it. You can bring your vehicle to Airpark Auto Collision in Gaithersburg no matter which carrier you have.

How does the insurance claim process work?

File the claim with your carrier and get a claim number. Bring it to Airpark and we handle the rest: a written estimate with photos, supplements for any hidden damage, parts approvals with your adjuster, and direct billing. You approve the repair plan and we manage the back-and-forth.

Will you bill my insurance company directly?

Yes. Once your claim is open, we bill your insurance carrier directly for the approved repairs. You're typically responsible only for your deductible, which we collect when the vehicle is ready. Call (301) 908-0606 with your claim number to get started.

Do I pay a deductible if the accident wasn't my fault?

If the at-fault driver's insurance accepts liability, you usually pay no deductible — their carrier covers the repair. If you file through your own collision coverage first, you pay your deductible and it may be reimbursed once fault is settled. We can bill either carrier.

What happens if my car is declared a total loss?

A car is 'totaled' when repair costs approach its actual cash value (often around 70–75% in Maryland). If your vehicle is totaled, your insurer pays its market value instead of repairing it. We'll give you an honest assessment early so you're not surprised — call (301) 908-0606.

Do you use OEM or aftermarket parts?

Your choice. We default to OEM (original equipment) parts when your policy covers them and always tell you exactly what we're installing. If your policy specifies aftermarket or recycled-OEM parts, we'll flag it in advance — and quote the difference if you'd like to upgrade to OEM.

Do you coordinate a rental car?

Yes. If your policy includes rental coverage, we coordinate the pickup and track your coverage limit so we can keep the repair within it. If your coverage runs short, we'll tell you before it does so there are no surprises.

Will filing a claim with your shop raise my insurance rates?

No. Your premium is based on fault, claim type, and your policy — not on which shop performs the repair. Choosing Airpark instead of an insurer's preferred shop has no effect on your rates.

How do I get a free estimate?

Call (301) 908-0606, stop by 7615 Rickenbacker Dr, Suite C in Gaithersburg, or request one online at airparkautocollisions.com. Every estimate is free, written, and itemized — no appointment required, no obligation to book.

How long does collision repair take?

Minor cosmetic work takes about 3–5 business days. Moderate multi-panel damage runs 5–10 business days. Major structural or frame repair takes 2–4 weeks, depending on parts and insurance approvals. You'll get a written timeline with your estimate.

Will the paint match my car?

Yes. We read your vehicle's actual current color with a spectrophotometer, pull the factory paint code, and blend the finish into adjacent panels so the repair is invisible. We handle metallic, pearl, and tri-coat finishes in a downdraft, baked booth.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. All paint and refinish work carries a written lifetime warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. Ask us about our workmanship warranty on body and structural repairs when you bring your car in — we stand behind every job.

What types of damage do you repair?

Collision and accident damage, dents, dings, scratches, scuffs, bumper and fender damage, hail damage, rust, fiberglass cracks, and full structural and frame damage. We also do auto paint, restoration, and custom fabrication — all under one roof in Gaithersburg.

Do you do paintless dent repair (PDR)?

Yes, when the damage qualifies. PDR works well for dents that haven't cracked the paint — door dings, minor hail, small creases. It's faster and more affordable because there's no filler or repainting. We'll tell you at the estimate whether PDR is an option.

Can you fix frame or structural damage?

Yes. We use computerized frame-measuring equipment to bring your vehicle's unibody or frame back to factory tolerances — the same standard the manufacturer uses. Structural repairs also include ADAS sensor recalibration where needed for safety systems.

Do you work on all makes and models?

Yes — all makes and models, domestic and foreign, including cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, and light commercial vehicles. We service everything from daily drivers to luxury and exotic vehicles, plus classic and project cars for restoration work.

Do you repair hail damage?

Yes. Most hail damage is repaired with paintless dent removal, which preserves your factory paint and is often covered by comprehensive insurance with no effect on your rates. For severe hail we refinish affected panels. Bring it in for a free assessment.
