Wheel & Rim Repair

Curb rash, bends, and scuffs — refinished to look factory-new.

A scraped rim or a bent wheel is one of the most common — and most fixable — kinds of cosmetic damage we see. Airpark Auto Collision repairs curb rash, refinishes painted and chrome wheels, and straightens minor bends, usually for a fraction of what a new wheel costs.

Curb rash and scuff repair

Curb rash — the scraped, scuffed edge from clipping a curb or parking block — is repaired by sanding down the damaged area, filling where needed, priming, and refinishing to match the wheel's original color and finish, whether that's factory silver, gunmetal, gloss black, or a custom color. Done right, the repair is invisible.

Bent rim straightening

Potholes are hard on wheels, especially in Montgomery County after freeze-thaw cycles in late winter. Minor bends and out-of-round rims can often be straightened on specialized equipment, restoring proper seal with the tire bead and eliminating the vibration or slow air loss a bent rim causes. We'll check for cracks first — a cracked wheel needs replacement, not straightening, for safety reasons.

Painted and chrome wheel refinishing

Painted alloy wheels that are faded, chipped, or peeling can be stripped and refinished in the original factory color or a new custom finish. Chrome wheels with pitting or peeling plating are a different process — we can assess whether a chrome wheel is a good candidate for repair or whether replacement is the more durable long-term fix.

When repair isn't the right call

Cracked wheels, wheels with structural bends beyond safe tolerance, or wheels that have lost too much material to curb rash for a clean cosmetic repair should be replaced rather than repaired — driving on a compromised wheel is a genuine safety risk. We'll always tell you honestly which category your wheel falls into.

Frequently asked questions

How much does curb rash repair cost?

Most curb rash repairs run $75–$250 per wheel depending on the size of the scrape and the finish (painted vs. chrome). Compare that to $300–$900+ for a replacement wheel.

Can a bent rim be fixed?

Minor bends and out-of-round conditions can often be straightened on specialized wheel repair equipment. Wheels with cracks or bends beyond safe tolerance need to be replaced — we check for cracks before recommending straightening.

Is it safe to drive on a bent or curbed wheel?

A cosmetically scraped wheel with no structural damage is generally safe. A bent wheel can cause vibration, uneven tire wear, and slow air loss, and should be inspected before you keep driving on it — some bends are cosmetic, some compromise the tire seal or structure.

Can you match my wheel's exact color and finish?

Yes. We color-match painted wheels to the factory finish or a custom color of your choice, and can assess chrome wheels for repair versus replacement.

How long does wheel repair take?

Most single-wheel repairs finish in 1–2 days, including refinishing and cure time.

Do you repair wheels that aren't from a collision?

Yes — most of our wheel and rim repair work is everyday curb rash and pothole damage, unrelated to any collision. Walk-ins are welcome for a free assessment.
